OS-TSRPG is a guide to quickly and easily using, and retaining the flavor of, Old-School dungeon modules with a rules-light storytelling system! This can allow grognards to pull their old adventures off the shelf and run them for friends and family members who are not ever going to learn "Basic," "Expert," or "Advanced/1E" rules, and for newer gamers to enjoy the stories associated with retro scenarios without having to master obsolete game systems. And it also works equally well for more recent editions!

Role-playing games have evolved over the past five decades, with game designers taking the original miniatures-combat derived rule sets down paths of detailed simulation, storytelling approaches, and everything in between. As older systems are replaced by modern interpretations, however, classic adventures featuring evil temples, lost ruins, invasions by Giants, and the convoluted conspiracies of Dark Elves become increasingly difficult to adapt. This is unfortunate, because these older classic modules created the rich backstory of history, mythology, and trope that underly many current game settings — and, just as importantly, they are fun to play!

Likewise, Old-School retro-clone game systems such as the Old School Reference and Index Compilation (OSRIC) admirably simulate early editions of fantasy role-playing games, but often rely on unwieldy mechanics that can be off-putting to newer players. These older rules systems and their streamlined clones are typically combat-heavy, skill-light, and time-consuming to learn.

How then is it possible to experience the classic adventures without the baggage of the old rules? Is there some way gamers could experience the classic adventures in a streamlined fashion that focuses on the story and experience rather than the rules, all the while maximizing player choices in a consequential manner? And what would that even look like?

It looks like OS-TSRPG, a simple set of conversion guidelines that allows classic adventures to be played using the Platinum-bestselling TSRPG (Travel-Sized RPG) storytelling system.
